Saturday and Sunday - the days after the wedding
The wedding party returns to Phoenix and welcomes friends and family to informally join them for a variety of activities throughout the weekend.

Sadly, we are not providing food and drinks for the Phoenix events as our budget allows for just the wedding and one celebration done right - which will be up in Milwaukee in late November. We hope the lack of free booze discourages no one from attending!

For those who have wondered about Jamie's roots over the past decade, this will be your opportunity to meet his family and ask questions. With triplet grandchildren in Charlotte, NC, Jamie's folks haven't seen the AZ sun in years. If it weren't for the wedding, they probably wouldn't be visiting until 2013 when Arizona St. hosts the Badgers in football.

An Evite will be sent so the locations we host the events will be prepared.

Saturday night dinner at China Pearl
(1)   Near Baseline & Val Vista
Courtney and Jamie picked out her engagement ring together. Hence, Jamie needed to think extra hard about how to surprise Courtney with popping the question (Courtney loves being surprised and excels at discovering surprises beforehand).

Jamie used the cover of meeting for a very late-lunch on a Saturday afternoon at their favorite restaurant, which he knew would likely be empty. Jamie had a prior meeting around the corner and arrived early to spill the beans to the owner, who knows C & J's favorite dishes and orders when we walk in the door.

China Pearl is where we will dine around 6:30pm. It is located at 3861 E Baseline Rd, Ste K136 Gilbert, AZ 85234 (se corner of Val Vista and Baseline). It is a smaller venue so we will need to RSVP.

Saturday night fun at The Monastery

(2)   Near McKellips & Greenfield
Around 8pm, weather permitting, we plan to arrive at The Monastery in Mesa, AZ for outdoor fun, including drinks, live music, sand volleyball and, if you have the skills and balance: ping pong.

If the size of our group will be large, we would like to call ahead to the Monastery and reserve a section of the outdoor seating area.

Sunday morning green eggs and gold ham

(3)   Near Queen Creek & Alma School
Packer and Dolphin fans are invited to join us at 10am as we watch Aaron Rodgers throw 4 touchdowns and rush for a 5th while Charles Woodson picks off two passes, one for a TD return, at the Native New Yorker.

Bears, Browns, Bucs, Chargers, Chiefs, Eagles, Falcons, Giants, 'Hawks, Lions, Patriots, Rams, Ravens, Saints, Steelers and Texans fans can all enjoy 10am games together. Joe can watch the Bears, Vanessa the Vikings and... well, we don't have any friends or family who admit to being Lions fans. To make closet Lion fans feel better, here are some Woodson highlights while he was still in Michigan:

Those watching with us please keep a watchful eye on Jamie's family as they adjust to watching football before noon on a Sunday. Hopefully tasty wings and beverages ease the transition.

Sunday sports continue with softball in Tempe at 6pm

(4)   Near Warner & Hardy
Courtney's and Jamie's softball team will play Sunday night and we'd love to pack the stands with fans. The team's uniforms will be altered to include a wedding theme. Will it be enough to distract the opposing team?

The Empty Pitchers have risen from the bottom to the top of Tempe's divisions yet the team still focuses on fun first and running up the score second.

The game starts at 7pm and we should have perfect weather. The fields are located on the northeast corner of Warner and Hardy, a stone's throw north of the Arizona Cardinals training facility. Our OF Keith (with his sensitive hearing) has overheard Larry Fitzgerald and others ooh and aah over our playing. Of the four fields packed together, we are on the northeast field.

Post game, around 8pm, old fans, new fans and teammates can head around the corner for post-game food and beverages. Raoul and the Tibetan Mountain Monk may make an appearance.

Fungos Any player who hits a popup owes $1 to the Protect the Pterodactyl Project, which helps purhase a pitcher to aid discussions on preventing popups from hitting low-flying pterodactyls... For the record, "northeast" has been used to describe a location three times on this page and "southeast" has been used once. But who's counting?
